Spencer County Community Vision Planning

Get Involved. Shape What’s Next.

How to Get Involved

Community Vision Planning only works when the community shows up—and there are several ways to be part of it:

  • Attend town halls and public meetings
  • Join or follow subcommittee discussions
  • Share your ideas and priorities

Your input helps guide what projects move forward and how Spencer County grows.

What We’re Working On

Community feedback is organized into a few key areas where you can plug in:

  • Tourism & Identity – events, historic preservation, trails, and community branding
  • Infrastructure & Small Business – utilities, roads, growth planning, and support for local businesses
  • Community Services – housing, food access, communication, and strengthening connections

These priorities come directly from community conversations and ongoing input.

Progress So Far

This community-first approach is already delivering results. The initial Community Vision Planning team secured nearly $900,000 in state funding for Taylorsville Main Street to use for downtown improvements and for the Felix Grundy Stidger Preservation foundation to activate a full restoration of the Stidger Cabin.

That success shows how aligned priorities, strong participation, and clear planning can move ideas into action. Here is a quick video by local volunteer Terri Cooper.

Why It Matters

Spencer County is growing, and this process helps ensure that growth reflects the community’s values—while protecting the small-town feel people care about most.

It’s about balancing opportunity with identity and making sure progress benefits residents, businesses, and future generations.

What This Is

Community Vision Planning is a public process led by the Community Vision Planning Committee under the Tourism Commission. We didn’t know what we were or how to organize ourselves until recently. So welcome!

Its role is to listen, organize community input, and share priorities with decision-makers—not to create policy or make funding decisions.

All meetings are documented, and community input is used to help guide future planning, partnerships, and funding opportunities.

Looking Ahead

This is an ongoing effort to build a shared vision for Spencer County’s future—one shaped by the people who live, work, and invest here.

The more voices involved, the stronger that vision becomes.
